USB Virtualization. USB in Virtual Environment.

Nowadays, virtualization has reached the broadest range of openness and scalability with the virtualization products and services ranging from network and desktop to server to storage. Along with this, some problems may arise which are to be solved. Every virtual environment user faces one the most problematic issues, that is USB devices usage in virtual sessions.

The next-generation technologies gave possibility to deliver and manage local USB devices in a virtual machine with USB for Virtual Environment solution (I highly recommend the one, produced by FabulaTech) which rapidly configures and deploys any USB device. Designed for Windows and Linux OS and ensuring broad device compatibility, USB for Virtual Environment is VMware, VMware ESX, Citrix XenDesktop, Microsoft Hyper-V ready.

Here is how it works. The program comprises two parts:  Server and Client. Server side installs on the PC which USB devices are plugged in. Server side makes USB devices available over network. Client side installs on guest operating system (virtual machine). Client application allows connecting remote shared USB device.

USB for Virtual Environment has been developed to expand a virtual infrastructure and to get better control over network.

The solution is highly recommended for general users, enterprises, corporations, IT integrators, Small Office Home Office (SOHO), Educational organizations: all those, who want to increase the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of their IT operations.

Virtual Modem: virtual has gone far.

Generally speaking, virtualization is meant to ease human life in every aspect of its activity. Virtual infrastructure has been set-up to improve business continuity, maximize cost savings and rapidly respond to any user needs. Nowadays, more and more people address to virtualization as the answer to their arising challenges. It surely provides the ability to choose what works best for one’s own needs.

Virtual Modem allows internet usage instead of direct phone calls to connect regular communications software. As a modem over tcp/ip, it allows any modem communications applications to interact via LAN or the Internet in a way, that application “dials” remote IP address instead of making a dial-direct call using hardware modem. Moreover, it looks as if the application worked with hardware modem. But in fact, a hardware modem is not used.

Virtual Modem skillset suggests the following:

-         Replaces hardware modems with pure software. The program allows any modem communications applications to interact via LAN or the Internet. Application “dials” remote IP address instead of making a dial-direct call.

-         No charges for phone calls. No need to pay for each phone call (especially for international phone calls).

-         Location-independent. Virtual modem can be used anywhere in the world where Internet access is available.

-         Neither phone line nor modem needed.

-         One can limit network access to a virtual modem using any firewall software.

It represents a complete virtualization solution and is successfully used in such spheres as financial systems, credit card transaction, legal information database access, real estate information systems, device control and data acquisition, building automation, security systems.

Virtual modems look like hardware modems for all communications applications and can be easily managed without making changes in existing communications software.

It has a noticeable and immediate impact on business productivity enhancing flexibility and reducing costs.

Sound Virtualization with Sound over RDP: how does it work?

As a common-known fact, RDP protocol does not support the two-way sound.  Hence with the help of sound virtualization technologies it has now become possible with Sound over RDP. The latter offers new and powerful opportunities to deliver and manage remote sound in a flexible way. Now, the two-way sound in remote desktop is no more an utopia. With the help of a nifty sound virtualization tool which was built specifically to enable remote sound from the local machine to the remote computer, one can considerably ease work. It is ideal for those who are seeking for sound flexibility.

Many applications use sound for various forms of feedback such as softphones, Skype, NetMeeting, AIM, ICQ and many others. Sound over RDP extends standard RDP functionality and delivers full high-resolution low-latency remote audio playback. With the help of it, one can access data of a sound input device plugged into the local machine while working in remote Windows session.

The program is simple to handle. A working sound device is needed, Workstation installed on the computer to which the device is physically connected and the Server side on the remote server from which access to a device is needed. End users benefit from a rich remote sound experience, highly secure and flexible access to their information and increased business continuity.

Key Sound over RDP capabilities include:

-Support for input sound devices such as microphones

-Multichannel mixer

-Low-latency

-Works with Windows Remote Desktop Connection client

-Virtual Machine compatible

OEM License allows integration of Sound over RDP functionality into one’s own application.

Sound over RDP solution is ideal for people working with voice messengers in remote sessions, call centers, thin clients’ users, everyone who wants to use two-way sound over RDP protocol.

Sound over RDP has been developed by FabulaTech, a UK-based software development company which has built its solid grounds on the software market since 2000. The company specializes in device driver development, application development and systems internals programming for Microsoft Windows, Linux and Embedded operating systems.

Virtual Serial Port. Serial Data Filtering and GPS Tracking.

Serial Data Filtering. Here is the recent case study throughly discussed at most tech forums : “Image Systems are a medium sized company who are leaders in CCTV and Point of Sale integration in New Zealand. The current solutions offered by POS providers and CCTV data capture solutions Image Systems found were limited in their functionality. Using data capture via serial ports,a system to filter out unwanted data was created”. Using Virtual Serial Port Control OEM Image Systems Limited reduced the amount of hardware which is needed to filter out the data from the POS system. This has decreased time to market and decreased the cost to develop further. The Virtual Serial Port Control OEM has been included into new software using Microsoft Visual Studio 2005, written using the C# programming language. Continue reading

USB Monitor – the one and only solution to analyze USB traffic!

USB protocol capturing, decoding, displaying, filtering, errors detecting and much more what cannot be done by others. USB Monitor Pro is an effective and simple in use analyzer of USB traffic for Windows. It allows to monitor incoming and outgoing data of a USB device plugged into the computer.  It’s an indispensable tool for a developer of firmware and drivers for USB devices, expanding developer’s arsenal. Virtual Null-Modem Cable over Network

Network Serial Port Kit can easily create virtual null-modem connections over network. In other words, you can connect two communications applications running on different computers by means of virtual null-modem cable over network. Continue reading

Virtual Serial Ports. Network Serial Port Kit.

Here is a real problem some people faced once: “We are developing a satellite terminal controlled through serial communication. We currently have four demo and test units located on the roof our facility connected to a local PC host. In order to market and test our device we need to access the terminal from remote locations. For example, when performing demonstrations for customers it would be beneficial to have real time access to the terminals located on our roof. This would allow for various representatives around the world to present and interact with our most up to date product whenever needed. Furthermore, some software development is done offsite. Again, having remote access to a centraly located device would allow everyone involved on new upgrades, both on and offsite, to work on the same physical device”

Such problem can be saved with the serial to ethernet solution. Network Serial Port Kit shares physical serial port with a connected device and then accesses this device from any other computer over local network or the Internet. Virtual serial port is created on the computer from which you want to access the serial device and it’s the exact copy of the remote physical serial port with the connected device. Data is forwarded over the network from the physical serial port to the virtual serial port and vice versa. An application on the local computer works with the serial device via the virtual serial port as if it was plugged into this very local computer.

Terminal Server. USB for Remote Desktop.

Task: access local USB devices in Terminal Server. I am fortunate in that I get to work from home on a fairly regular basis. My job relies on my being able to connect via VPN into the Company intranet. I run a lot of software on my work computer that is bandwidth intensive, and being that my uplink speed from home is rather limited, I have a difficult time running my normal applications from home.
